Comcast plans to spin off NBCUniversal and Sky as a tax-free entity by mid-2027. The company intends to execute significant job cuts across its cable and telecommunications divisions to support this transition.

Jason Armstrong stated the move "is to get ahead of cost actions that will facilitate sort of a fast start into 2027." Armstrong added, "We don’t look at it as a cost-cutting exercise. This is the ability to simplify in order to move faster, to be more nimble in decision-making, and I think really create capacity, you know, to invest for growth."

A restructuring charge exceeding $1 billion is expected in the fourth quarter. Revenue for the connectivity and platforms segment dropped 2.7% to $19.66 billion during the third quarter.

In contrast, NBCUniversal's film, television, and theme park operations saw a 6.5% increase to $10.54 billion. Mike Cavanagh will take over as the chief executive of the independent NBCUniversal.

Michael Angelakis has been selected to lead Comcast as its chief executive following the separation. The corporation employed approximately 179,000 people as of 31 December 2025.

Versant Media is scheduled to close in January 2026.
