Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs160 billion package to fund development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 22 October. Addressing a meeting of the Area Development Council at Governor House Peshawar, Sharif pledged that the federal government would cooperate to resolve wheat shortages in the province.
The Prime Minister instructed authorities to make sure wheat remains available at the prices set by the federal government. Security measures were also a priority, with Sharif ordering the strengthening of the Counter Terrorism Department and the rapid completion of Safe City projects.
Sharif directed officials to take immediate action against robbery and theft incidents across the region. The Prime Minister attributed police performance failures over the last 13 years to the criminal negligence of PTI rulers.
He further alleged that a Rs100 billion corruption scam involving drinking water projects and a Rs37 billion scandal in Kohistan occurred during the PTI administration. Regarding the 40-member Tribal Council, Sharif stated, "All resources will be utilized to protect the rights of the tribal people."
