An emergency medical team transported Vincent Kompany to a hospital on Friday after he collapsed during a training session with the FC Bayern reserve team. The 40-year-old manager is currently undergoing thorough examinations and will remain under medical supervision.

Kompany missed a press conference and training on Tuesday before the Champions League draw against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena. The manager explained that he caught a nasty virus last week and failed to listen to his body until it eventually reached a breaking point.

Max Eberl stated that the health of the coach is the club's top priority and that the team will do everything possible to ensure a quick recovery. Eberl added that the coaching staff will take over duties while Kompany receives necessary medical care and time to rest.

Aaron Danks handled the press conference and training before the Arsenal match, noting that the virus caused some leg pain and requires rest. Danks said the most important thing is for Kompany to rest for as much time as he needs, regardless of the duration.

FC Bayern will face Freiburg on Saturday before their next Champions League match against Atletico in Madrid on 3 November. Atletico expressed wishes for a speedy recovery and hope to see the manager on the bench in Madrid in a few days.

Kompany began his career with Anderlecht in Brussels before moving to Hamburg and then to Manchester City. He played 360 games for Manchester City, where he served as captain for eight seasons.

After taking over at Burnley in 2022, Kompany led the club to a Championship title in 2023. Bayern signed Kompany as manager in 2024, and he has since led the club to Bundesliga titles in 2024 and 2025.

He also guided the team to a German Cup in 2026. Bayern currently lead the table after six games on goal difference.

Under Kompany's leadership in 74 Bundesliga games, the team has won 57 matches and lost three. Kompany represented Belgium 89 times and finished his playing career at Anderlecht in 2019.

Eberl described the way Kompany combines coaching ability with personal qualities as extraordinary. Eberl noted that the manager is always friendly, open, and approachable, while knowing exactly what he wants on the pitch.
