National Highway Authority annual revenue rose from Rs66 billion to Rs160 billion to fund infrastructure development. Abdul Aleem Khan, Federal Minister for Communications, spoke to the business community at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The NHA is executing highway, motorway, and expressway projects by utilizing its own funds. Construction is currently moving forward on the N-25 Pakistan Expressway in Balochistan, the Lodhran Expressway, and the expansion of the Faisalabad Motorway.
Work has also commenced on the Sambrial–Kharian Motorway, which will shorten the travel distance between Lahore and Islamabad by 100 kilometres. The agency allocates 70 percent of its total revenue specifically to projects in Balochistan.
Next month, the NHA plans to start construction on the Sukkur–Karachi Motorway. Previous annual expenditure for the NHA was limited to Rs50 billion.
Sixty-six projects requiring pending construction have an estimated cost of Rs3,000 billion. Renovation and beautification of the Islamabad–Murree Expressway is now finished.
The Islamabad–Murree Expressway is slated for an extension to Muzaffarabad in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The government plans to upgrade the Mansehra–Naran–Jalkhad–Chilas Road into a motorway.
Khan will visit the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce in the near future. Khan also offered congratulations to the newly elected President Ali Hassam Asghar.
