Pakistan and the United States achieved substantial progress on several important provisions of their proposed bilateral reciprocal trade agreement. Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan chaired a meeting to discuss the ongoing negotiations.
During the session, Khan met with US Chargé d'Affaires Natalie A Baker to review bilateral economic relations. The discussions focused on market access for Pakistani agricultural products, with a specific emphasis on dates and mangoes.
Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul stated that greater access would create export opportunities for growers, particularly in Balochistan. Both sides explored enhanced agricultural trade, including the export of soybeans and cotton from the United States to Pakistan.
Khan encouraged American companies to explore investment in food processing technologies, cold-chain infrastructure, and modern agricultural machinery. The minister invited US businesses and agricultural organisations to participate in FoodAg 2026, which will take place in Karachi from 23 to 26 November 2026.
The parties also explored technical cooperation, skills development, and responsible resource development in the minerals and mining sectors. Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul noted that only a few technical points remain to be discussed with the United States Trade Representative.
