Hafiz Naeemur Rehman met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister's House in Islamabad on 27 October to discuss inflation and the petroleum levy. The Jamaat-e-Islami delegation included Vice chief Liaquat Baloch, Deputy Secretary General Syed Farasat Shah, and Islamabad chapter chief Nasrullah Randhawa.
Representing the government were Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Senator Rana Sanaullah, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani. Rehman stated that the party will not delay its Islamabad march any further and it will occur in mid-November.
The party has sought the removal of petroleum levies for more than two months, citing skyrocketing fuel prices caused by Middle East conflicts since March. Earlier in September, the Centre and Jamaat-e-Islami agreed to establish committees to suggest ways to lower the levy.
Rehman also condemned the declaration of an emergency in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, describing it as a breach of human rights. The party had previously postponed a long march from Karachi in September at the request of Shehbaz Sharif.
Previous actions by the party included a nationwide strike on 3 September, a protest march toward Islamabad on 20 September, and sit-ins in all provincial capitals on 16 August. During the September 20 protest, the party warned that the movement could turn into an effort to oust the government if the levy was not abolished.
