The first phase of a model prison in Sector H-16, Islamabad, is finished and ready for use. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to inaugurate the facility in the near future.

Spanning 90 acres, the initial construction phase provides enough space to hold 1,000 prisoners. Three barracks have been erected as part of the first stage of development.

All inmates from Islamabad currently held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi will move to this new site once it opens. The project cost Rs7 billion to complete.

Staff housing includes twelve flats for officers and a three-storey barracks building for other employees. A residence for the prison superintendent was also finished during Phase 1.

Security measures include 34 security posts and two watchtowers. An administrative block, a kitchen, and a 32-bed hospital have been established on the grounds.

Capital Development Authority staff will manage the hospital. Sohail Ashraf, CDA Chairman and chief commissioner of Islamabad, visited the project site.
