The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has demanded the creation of new administrative units within Sindh. At the party's Bahadurabad headquarters, MQM-P convened a session with legal experts to discuss the proposal.
Members of the Muttahida Lawyers Forum and the party's Legal Aid Committee participated in the gathering. Senior MQM-P leader Wasim Akhtar and former judge Qazi Khalid were among those in attendance.
The party previously advocated for the establishment of new provinces in August. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi advocated for additional provinces or administrative units on 30 July.
Naqvi reaffirmed his support for creating new provinces on 5 September. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif proposed Islamabad as a potential starting point for restructuring administrative boundaries.
Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah stated that the issue of new provinces must be settled through consensus. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan cautioned on 7 September against dividing Sindh without the consent of its residents.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has already rejected the plan to divide the province. The Sindh Assembly passed a resolution on 3 September formally rejecting the division of the province.
