Foreign ministers from the R4 and E3 groups will convene in Istanbul for the first-ever gathering of these two blocs. The R4 group comprises Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, while the E3 group consists of Britain, France, and Germany.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is hosting the meeting, which was organised at the initiative of Ankara. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul and British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband are scheduled to attend the talks.
Other participants include Jean-Noel Barrot, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Faisal bin Farhan. The ministers will discuss the Palestinian issue, the situation in Hormuz, and developments in Yemen.
Diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war also feature on the agenda. Hakan Fidan is expected to stress the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb open.
The Turkish Foreign Minister may also state that regional security cannot be achieved through military means alone. Fidan is also likely to express that Ankara supports Saudi Arabia's security following Houthi attacks.
