Pakistan Power Limited (PPL) issued relocation letters to 50 employees who must report to the Islamabad office on 25 October 2026. The utility company intends to shift its Karachi headquarters to the capital city.

As of 1 October 2026, the Karachi branch employed roughly 500 people, while the Islamabad facility housed about 80 staff members. Monthly rent for the Karachi premises stands at approximately Rs. 4 million, whereas the proposed Islamabad office would require Rs. 50 million per month.

Relocating the workforce will cost between Rs. 2 million and Rs. 3 million per person, bringing the total estimated relocation expenditure to roughly Rs. 4 billion. Procuring or moving office equipment and furniture could add costs exceeding Rs. 1 billion.

Staff members urged the board and management to rethink the move, warning that it could increase expenses and disrupt the lives of employees and their families. Karachi-based workers suggested keeping offices in both cities and using an online coordination system instead of a full relocation.

The workforce requested a transparent survey to gauge willingness to move and asked for consultations across different management levels before a final decision is made.
