The Rawalpindi divisional administration has instructed the Communication and Works Department to finish two underpasses on Peshawar Road by 30 November 2026. Construction of these projects, which cost approximately Rs. 8 billion, has reached a completion rate of about 60 percent.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani inspected the construction sites at Charing Cross and Race Course Chowk to monitor progress. The superintending engineer of Highway Circle No. 1 provided the commissioner with a briefing on the status of the ongoing works.
Workers have already finished the piling, deck slabs, and capping beams at the sites. Current operations involve road development, excavation, drainage systems, utility relocation, and the installation of barriers.
The Race Course Underpass will feature three-level road lanes and two lanes for northbound traffic. Southbound traffic will be served by the Charing Cross Underpass, which includes two underpass lanes and two-level road lanes.
Authorities are also widening and rehabilitating the stretch of road between Raffay Mall and Bungalow No. 276 while moving utility services underground. Salman Ghani ordered officials to implement anti-smog measures, provide alternative routes, and ensure effective traffic management.
