Israel revoked the visas of Samed Abu Zarifa and Samir Al Boji without providing an explanation. Five journalists died in April 2025 when an Israeli strike hit the tent shared by Abu Zarifa and Boji.

The bombing also killed Yousef during the same April 2025 incident. Abu Zarifa, a photojournalist for NBC News with over a decade of experience, is in his early 30s and has two young children.

Boji, who is 40 years old and has a family of six, won two News and Documentary Emmy Awards in May 2026. Both reporters began covering Gaza in October 2023, nearly two years ago.

Israel banned foreign journalists from entering Gaza unless they were accompanied by the IDF following the Hamas-led attack in 2023. The Committee to Protect Journalists stated that 196 journalists and storytellers have been killed in this war.

Boji said, "I haven't eaten in three days." Boji also remarked, "Sometimes, I am not sure if I should film or not."

Lawahez Jabari serves as an NBC News producer based in Tel Aviv.
