The Government of Japan has launched applications for the Japan Development Scholarship (JDS) Program 2026, offering fully-funded opportunities to Pakistani government officers. A total of 16 master’s scholarships are available across various fields, including public administration, finance, industrial development, investment, energy policy, and climate change.
The Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) stated that the scholarship covers university tuition fees, round-trip airfare between Islamabad and Japan, monthly financial support, additional allowances, and accommodation assistance. Specific allocations include 11 scholarships for Public Administration, Finance and Governance, three for Industrial Promotion and Investment, and two for Climate Change and Energy Policy.
Applicants must be between 25 and 40 years old as of April 1, 2027, and hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university. Eligibility is restricted to federal government cadre officers and federal ex-cadre officers serving in BPS-17 or above who possess at least three years of full-time public service experience.
Naomi Kaneko briefed officials on the program during a meeting at the Punjab Protection Authority’s head office in Lahore. The scholarship program encourages eligible female government officers to apply, while noting that an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent English proficiency is preferable.
Candidates applying to the relevant Ritsumeikan University program are exempt from the mathematics test. The deadline for submitting applications is November 27, 2026, with successful candidates expected to start their studies in Japan during the 2027–28 academic year.
