The Punjab government has authorised the celebration of Basant across the province during the second week of March 2027. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved a 10-day festival in Lahore running from 29 January to 7 February 2027.

A one-day suspension of the festivities is scheduled for 5 February 2027 to mark Kashmir Day. Authorities have prepared an administrative plan to permit kite-making only at specific designated locations.

New legislation will be introduced to regulate the production of kites, manage market prices, and establish safety measures. Officials devised a strategy to monitor and control the costs of strings and kites.

The province previously lifted the ban on kite-flying, leading to a three-day event held under strict oversight. Free transport services were provided by the authorities during those previous celebrations.

Lahore hosted its first Basant festival in over 20 years in February 2026. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stated that Basant would help promote Punjab’s historic cultural traditions.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb described the successful celebrations as a victory for Lahore and Pakistan.
