Rivian announced it produced 19,751 vehicles and delivered 19,248 vehicles during the third quarter of the year. Production figures showed an increase of 85 percent compared to the previous year, and deliveries rose by 45 percent year-over-year.

Maintaining its full-year 2026 guidance, Rivian expects to deliver between 65,000 and 70,000 vehicles. The company anticipates selling more than 25,000 R2 models within the first year of the R2's production run.

RJ Scaringe stated, “R2 is the most important thing we have because it’s what takes us from being subscale to being a scaled manufacturer”. Furthermore, Rivian projects that full-year deliveries for its R1 range and electric delivery van will remain flat.

In contrast, Cox Automotive reported that overall electric vehicle sales declined by nearly 24 percent year-over-year as of September 2026. The R2 model achieved its environmental target, reducing its lifetime emissions by 50 percent four years ahead of schedule.

Tesla reported a 2.1 percent decrease in its sales figures for the third quarter.
