Prime Minister for Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan met with a delegation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) to discuss industrial development and international cooperation. The talks covered topics including climate change, clean energy, competitiveness, and methods for enhancing productivity.

Khan stated that Pakistan is progressing toward economic stability, industrial growth, and the integration of modern technologies. The country has already established its first National Industrial Policy.

To reduce the trade deficit, Khan said the nation must pursue export-led growth while promoting local manufacturing and import substitution. Adverse effects from climate change are currently impacting industrial production and agricultural output in Pakistan, according to Khan.

The New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy has been introduced as part of the transition to cleaner transport. Khan noted that the electric vehicle sector is seeing significant progress.

A proposed Battery Energy Storage System Policy aims to support the local manufacturing of batteries for electric vehicles. Khan said Unido could support Pakistan's industrial transformation by facilitating investment, capacity building, technology transfer, and technical cooperation.

The Unido delegation highlighted solar energy as a promising area for future collaboration.
