The Pakistan Tax Bar Association (PTBA) has requested that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) push back the 2026 income tax return filing deadline to December 2. On 30 September, the FBR issued Circular No. 03 of 2026 to grant a temporary extension for filing until October 15.

Taxpayers have reported significant difficulties caused by persistent glitches in the IRIS portal, errors within return forms, and issues regarding the minimum tax calculation formula. In certain instances, the minimum tax calculation formula was applied incorrectly to taxpayers under that regime who also received income from sources where no tax deduction was required.

The Punjab Provincial Transport Authority has extended the deadline for obtaining mandatory vehicle fitness certificates to 31 December 2026. This move follows a previous extension by the Punjab government which had set the deadline for November 15.

The authority originally established October 15 as the date for securing these certificates. Exemptions from fitness certificates vary by engine capacity, with cars up to 1,000cc exempt for five years from manufacture.

Vehicles between 1,001cc and 2,000cc receive a six-year exemption, while cars exceeding 2,000cc are exempt for seven years from the date of manufacture.
