A judicial magistrate (East) granted the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) a four-day physical remand of Iqrar ul Hassan on 14 October. The NCCIA officer requested a 14-day physical remand to complete the investigation, but the magistrate ordered Hassan to be produced again on 17 October.
Hassan was taken into custody from his Lahore residence in the early hours of 13 October, following an initial arrest on 12 October. Authorities registered a first information report under sections 9, 10, 20, 24, and 26-A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016.
The NCCIA Karachi initiated an inquiry on 10 October after receiving a source report regarding the dissemination of false, fabricated, anti-state and defamatory content. An NCCIA officer stated, "This content threatened the Federation’s integrity, unity, and public order."
The magistrate permitted Hassan to meet with his legal team while in NCCIA custody, and the suspect did not report any maltreatment by officials.
