The Federal Aviation Administration approved the Max 10 for passenger service, with Boeing expected to start deliveries in 2027. Stephanie Pope said the approval "clears the path to deliver an aeroplane that will set a new standard in commercial aviation."
The aircraft typically accommodates between 185 and 210 passengers, while the Max 9 seats 175 to 195 people and the Max 8 holds 160 to 180. More than 30 global customers have placed orders for 1,555 Max 10s, representing over 30% of the total 737 Max backlog.
Alaska Airlines ordered 105 units in January and holds options for an additional 35 aircraft. Two fatal crashes involving the smaller Max 8 killed 346 people in 2018 and 2019.
The FAA cleared the Max 7 for airline operations in August. In July, the Federal Aviation Administration stated Boeing could again issue airworthiness certificates for its 737 Max and 787 planes at the end of production.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said, "To think that it took us almost 10 years to get here. We all probably had a little less grey hair 10 years ago."
