Privacy Policy
Sun News collects as little about you as the site can function on. This page says exactly what that is, rather than reserving broad rights we do not use.
Reading the site
You do not need an account to read Sun News, and we do not ask for your name, email or phone number to do it. Two small pieces of information are stored in your own browser so the site behaves the way you left it:
- Language. A cookie named
sun_localeremembers whether you chose English, Urdu or Punjabi, so you are not sent back to English on every visit. It lasts one year and you can clear it from your browser at any time. - Light or dark mode. Stored under
sun_themein your browser’s local storage. It never leaves your device.
Neither is used to track you between sites, and neither is shared with anyone. Our web server keeps ordinary technical logs (the page requested, the time, the IP address that requested it), which are used for security and to keep the site up, and are not used to build a profile of you.
Embedded content
Some stories embed video or posts hosted elsewhere, such as YouTube or X. When one of those loads, the platform hosting it can see that request and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy rather than this one. The same applies if you follow one of the links on our Sun Links page.
Job applications
If you apply through the careers page, we collect what you enter on the form and the documents you attach, typically a CV, degrees or transcripts, and work samples. The form does not ask for identity documents. This information is used internally only:
- used only to assess your application and, if you are hired, to open your HR file;
- stored privately. Uploaded documents are never published, never linked from the site, and are not reachable over the web;
- seen only by the HR Manager and the manager hiring for the role you applied to;
- the basis on which, with the consent you give on the form, we carry out documented reference and background checks limited to information relevant to the role.
Applications that do not lead to a hire are kept for up to twelve months in case a suitable role opens, then deleted. You can ask us to delete yours sooner, see below.
Contacting us
If you email a tip, a correction or a question, we keep that correspondence for as long as it is useful to the story or the matter it concerns. News tips are handled under our source protection obligations: if you ask to remain anonymous, we do not publish anything that identifies you.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or rent personal information.
- We do not run advertising trackers or third-party analytics profiles on this site.
- We do not send marketing email to people who have not asked for it.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted, by writing to [email protected]. Tell us enough to find the record, for a job application the reference shown when you submitted it is enough. We will respond within thirty days. Where the law requires us to keep something (employment and tax records, for example), we will say so rather than silently ignore the request.
You can also refuse or delete our cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work; it will simply forget your language and theme.
