Muhammad Ali presented a framework titled “TRUST” to stimulate Pakistan's economic expansion during the CEO Summit. Agriculture, textiles, and information technology were highlighted by Ali as the primary sectors essential for the national economy.
“We cannot go through that sort of test again. So we need to do something to avoid it in the future,” Ali said. The speaker noted that China initiated economic reforms in 1978, while South Korea established industries like plywood and textiles during the 1960s.
Vietnam also underwent a transformation from a rice importer to a significant exporter. “These countries did not try to do everything at once. They started from what they could already do well and built upon it,” Ali stated.
Pakistan's own agricultural progress originated from the Green Revolution of the 1960s. Energy, taxation, and state-owned enterprises were identified by Ali as three critical areas for reform.
Ali urged the transfer of decision-making and management within the energy sector to private entities. Documenting the economy was also emphasised as a necessary step to expand the tax base.
