WB and PRA agree to use digital systems to expand Punjab's tax base

A World Bank (WB) delegation met with Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra in Lahore on 28 September 2026. The World Bank and the PRA confirmed an agreement to introduce advanced digital systems aimed at expanding Punjab’s tax base and improving revenue collection.
The PRA Chairman stated that digital tools will expand the tax base and bring new businesses into the tax net. Furthermore, the PRA Chairman noted that digital data will help identify tax evasion, misappropriation, and discrepancies within business records.
Jointly, the PRA and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will create a working plan for digital tax reforms, receiving technical assistance and funding from the World Bank. Sipra added that modern technology will allow for more effective use of data concerning tax returns, payments, and business activities.
