The International Islamic University Islamabad conferred an honorary doctorate in Politics and International Relations on Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during the 13th Special Convocation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presented the degree to Muizzu at the Prime Minister’s House on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari.
Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is currently on a three-day state visit to Pakistan accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed. Vice President Academics Dr. Nadeem Ahmed Sheikh read the citation, noting the award recognises Muizzu’s public service, governance reforms, and dedication to Islamic values.
Muizzu recalled receiving his original doctorate 17 years ago and stated, "This honorary doctorate in Politics and International Relations is deeply meaningful… It matters because, although it has been given to me, it is the people of the Maldives who have earned it." The Maldives leader added, "Although we may be a small island nation, we believe firmly that dignity is not measured by landmass, nor is integrity determined by economic or military strength."
