Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved a pilot project to transform 120 villages into model communities. The provincial government will introduce the Khushhal Dehat Act 2026 to facilitate this initiative.

Each village will feature a committee formed in consultation with local public representatives. An assistant commissioner will lead every village committee, while the deputy commissioner supervises all committees and oversees the entire project.

Every committee will consist of four public representatives and four government officials. Government roles within these committees include a doctor from a Basic Health Unit or Maryam Nawaz Health Clinic, a union council secretary, and a head teacher.

The project provides every village with paved streets, drainage, and sewerage systems. Sharif said, "Development is no longer limited to big cities; its benefits will reach every village."

Party ticket-holders and members of the provincial assembly will serve as custodians for development projects in their specific villages.
