The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) hosted a Pre-COP31 event titled “Community Voice to COP31: From Negotiations to Implementation” at its National Headquarters in Islamabad. Supported by the German Red Cross, the gathering served as a platform to convert the experiences of communities impacted by climate change into a unified message.
Farzhana Naek, Chairperson of the PRCS, stated that climate change has become a growing humanitarian crisis affecting health, food security, water availability, livelihoods and human dignity. Muhammad Abaidullah Khan, Secretary General of the PRCS, noted that the society's ongoing transformation aims to strengthen transparency, accountability, institutional sustainability and operational effectiveness.
Three zones at the event showcased environmental action, community engagement and climate awareness. Attendees viewed a documentary on joint initiatives between the PRCS and the German Red Cross and watched a theatre performance called “Tapish”.
The Green Action Hub included a Climate Gallery, a Green Market, and booths for recycling metal, plastic and paper. A plantation drive named “Plant a Promise” concluded the programme.
An official from the PRCS said that the recommendations and key messages from the event would inform the society's Climate Message to COP31.
