Alexander Zverev defeated Quentin Halys in three sets to secure a spot in the last 16 of the Shanghai Masters. The world number two won the match with a score of 6-4, 6-7 (8/10), and 6-3.

Zverev clinched the opening set in just 38 minutes. Halys, who is ranked 48th in the world, faced a challenging opponent in this tournament.

The 29-year-old German described his opponent's style, saying, "He plays unbelievably aggressive and serves incredibly." Zverev noted his strategic approach to the current season, stating, "This year I have been picking my tournaments and places where I want to peak, I did not do that early in my career."

He added, "It paid off, I won two Grand Slams and reached the Wimbledon final." Jannik Sinner is not competing in Shanghai due to an injury, despite having won the US Open and French Open.

Sinner holds the world number one ranking, while Carlos Alcaraz sits at number three. Alcaraz is scheduled to face Zizou Bergs in the third round on Monday.
