Lancashire has released bowler James Anderson and will consider organising a farewell for the veteran player. The club held a meeting between its hierarchy and members at Old Trafford on 26 October.

Richard Kenyon has been appointed as the new chief executive of Lancashire, while Paul Farbrace takes on the role of incoming director of cricket. Farbrace stated he wants to build a squad capable of winning the County Championship within the next four years.

The director of cricket does not believe Anderson will play a part in the squad for the next four years. Anderson, who first represented Lancashire in 2001, made his professional debut for the club that same year.

He first played List A cricket in 2000 at the age of 17. By the end of 2002, Anderson was in the England team, and his international career with the nation concluded in 2024.

During his time with Lancashire, Anderson claimed 443 first-class scalps, 83 List A wickets, and 50 T20 wickets. He also took 50 wickets for the club last season and was named Lancashire's Championship player of the year.

Anderson served as Lancashire's captain in the County Championship last season, a year in which the team finished second bottom in Division Two. The bowler played for Lancashire in 2025 and stated he felt he could play for three more years during that season.

Anderson claimed 911 international wickets for England over his career.
