Google is integrating its Gemini AI assistant into Apple CarPlay to provide drivers with conversational navigation capabilities. American motorists can access the conversational Gemini tool in navigation starting today.
Google stated that the rollout is also happening globally. It took nearly 12 months for the company to bring the AI assistant to CarPlay users after first introducing Gemini to Android Auto last year.
Drivers can interact with the voice assistant in Google Maps to receive hands-free assistance while on the road. The system supports multi-step queries, such as requesting recommendations for destinations and then prompting the AI to navigate there while bypassing toll roads.
By tapping the Gemini icon on a car's infotainment display, users can activate the feature within Google Maps. Personal Intelligence features for Gemini in Android Auto and cars with Google built-in were announced yesterday.
These Personal Intelligence tools allow the voice assistant to retrieve user data from Search, YouTube, Photos, Maps, Calendar, and Gmail.
