BMW confirmed the iX4 represents the third model on the Neue Klasse platform, following the iX3 and i3 models. The iX4 50 xDrive is scheduled to arrive in March 2027, with a more powerful M60 xDrive variant following later that year.
The iX4 50 xDrive model begins at a price point of $66,200, excluding destination and handling fees. Powering the vehicle is a 'Gen6' high-voltage battery, which provides a usable energy capacity of 112.2kWh.
Furthermore, the iX4 supports an 800-volt architecture, enabling rapid charging capabilities. EPA estimates indicate the iX4 can achieve a maximum range of up to 428 miles.
For performance figures, the iX4 50 xDrive generates 463 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque, accelerating from 0 to 60mph in 4.7 seconds. The M60 xDrive variant boosts output to 603 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque, achieving 0–60mph one second quicker than the 50 xDrive.
BMW asserts that its EESM setup reduces drive-system energy losses by 40 percent and decreases weight by 10 percent. The Gen6 batteries incorporate cylindrical lithium-ion cells, measuring 46mm in diameter and 95mm in height, which boost energy density by 20 percent over Gen5 prismatic cells.
The vehicle can accept up to 400kWs of DC fast charging, replenishing approximately 184 miles of range within ten minutes. Compatibility extends to over 80,000 Tesla Supercharger connectors via the integration of a NACS charging port.
Inside, the iX4 features a 17.9-inch central touchscreen managing the Panoramic iDrive infotainment system. Moreover, the iX4 supports bidirectional charging, including functionality for vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-home applications.
The Neue Klasse lineup, according to BMW, includes the iX4 50 xDrive, M60 xDrive, i3, iX3, and 7 series.
