Pakistan called upon the United Nations to implement resolutions guaranteeing self-determination for both Kashmir and Palestine. Ambassador Usman Jadoon stated that international law cannot be applied strongly in one instance while ignoring it in another.
Kashmiris have awaited the execution of Security Council resolutions for a free and impartial plebiscite concerning Jammu and Kashmir for almost eight decades. Since 5 August 2019, repression and limitations on basic freedoms have increased within Jammu and Kashmir.
Ambassador Jadoon asserted that arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, restrictions on expression and peaceful assembly, and demographic engineering are unacceptable. A Pakistani representative maintained that the Kashmir dispute constitutes an internationally recognised disputed territory whose final status rests with the Kashmiri people's will.
Furthermore, the Pakistani envoy stressed that the Palestinian people must finally achieve their inalienable right to self-determination. The right to development, the speaker added, must occupy its proper position on the human rights agenda.
Pakistan expressed concern regarding the increasing normalization of Islamophobia. Jadoon confirmed that Pakistan will continue to favour dialogue over confrontation and international cooperation over politicization.
Sarfraz Ahmed Gohar claimed that India operates as a perpetrator of state terrorism within occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Gohar further alleged that Indian terrorism has reached North American shores.
The same source accused India of being a serial violator of international law and a gross abuser of human rights.
