Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over the inaugural session of the National Agriculture and Food Security Council in Islamabad on 13 October. The federal government plans to set the wheat price following discussions with provincial authorities.

Officials stated that current wheat stocks are enough to satisfy domestic demand. Authorities warned that individuals involved in hoarding the grain will receive no concessions from the state.

To ensure fair returns for growers while maintaining low prices for buyers, the government must balance these competing interests. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and Sindh Food Minister Makhdoom Mahboob-uz-Zaman presented their respective provincial plans for agricultural growth to the council.

The federal government committed to providing provinces with all possible support to advance agricultural development. Priorities include supplying farmers with quality seeds, modern machinery, and affordable fertilisers alongside technical guidance for water efficiency.

Steps are also being taken to boost the export of Pakistani halal meat. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar joined the meeting alongside federal ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Musadik Malik, Jam Kamal Khan, Ahsan Iqbal, and Attaullah Tarar.
