The 38-kilometre Rawalpindi Ring Road has reached completion, according to reports. However, authorities have not opened the Rawalpindi Ring Road to traffic because work continues on toll plazas and related facilities.
The stretch of road connecting Baanth to Thalian is reported as ready for use. Despite this progress, retaining walls, ramps, and greenbelts still require completion.
The Punjab Ring Road Authority intends to construct the necessary toll plazas and implement a computerized toll collection system. Tolls will be collected from public transport, goods vehicles, and private vehicles using this system.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani inspected the project on Friday. During the inspection, Salman Ghani directed officials to complete the remaining work on a priority basis.
Furthermore, Salman Ghani ordered immediate work on the toll plazas and weighing stations. He also called for the timely procurement of necessary hardware and software for toll operations.
Improving road signage and preparing a detailed plan for the proposed Rs. 5 billion Thalian interchange were other directives from Salman Ghani. The provincial government plans to commence the Thalian interchange project once the Ring Road opens.
The Ring Road is set to feature five interchanges and an industrial zone. The RDA is executing the Ring Road project, with FWO serving as the contractor.
