Abadi Al Johar reflected on his journey at the heart of Saudi music for Billboard Arabia's September cover. The Billboard Arabia team met with Abadi Al Johar in the majlis (guest room) for the interview.

A photograph displayed on one wall shows Abadi alongside the late Talal Maddah and Mohammed Abdu. Furthermore, a plaque commemorates Abadi's participation in a festival held in Egypt many years ago.

The hallway displayed more than 40 oud instruments. Abadi Al Johar spent time in Jeddah during the 1960s.

Lutfi Zaini, the poet and media figure, recognized Abadi's talent after hearing him play. When Abadi was barely 14, he entered Talal Maddah’s home to perform for him.

Abadi composed the piece “Taweela Ya Droub Al Asheqeen” specifically for Talal. In 2000, Abadi was present at Talal’s concert in Abha.

Talal Maddah passed away following a sudden heart attack at a concert in Abha. Talal admired Abadi’s oud, which featured his own image, and requested that one be commissioned.

The oud remained unused for over 26 years until Abadi brought it to the Billboard Arabia cover shoot. Abadi’s compositions reached artists across the Arab world, including Assala’s “Qad Al Horouf” and works for Rabeh Saqer, Samira Said, and Ahlam.

Over five decades, Abadi has amassed a collection of more than 500 songs and compositions. More than 50 years earlier, Abadi walked the streets of Jeddah searching for a melody, a technique, or a word of praise from his brother and mother.
