Harry Brook scored 202 runs in a one-day international against Sri Lanka to set a new record for the fastest double century in the format. The 27-year-old reached the milestone in just 114 balls, surpassing the previous mark of 117 deliveries held by Shubman Gill against the West Indies last month.
England finished the 50 overs with a total of 429-4, marking the highest score ever recorded in a one-day international in Pakistan. Brook accumulated 10 sixes and 21 fours during his innings, which included a rapid 39-ball stretch to move from 100 to 200 runs.
The batter started slowly with 13 runs from the first 24 deliveries before reaching 50 runs from 42 balls. He completed his fourth ODI century in 75 balls and shared a 159-run partnership for the third wicket with Joe Root, who was caught for 69.
Will Jacks joined Brook to form an unbroken 185-run stand from 79 balls, with Jacks scoring a half-century in 25 balls before finishing on 66 not out. England added 156 runs in the final 10 overs of the match.
Brook's performance registered the 14th double hundred in men's one-day internationals and the 12th highest individual score in the format. The score also represents the highest ODI total by a batter who did not open the innings and the fourth-highest score by a captain.
Brook is the second man to achieve a century in T20 internationals, a double hundred in ODIs, and a triple century in Tests, following Chris Gayle. The captain averages 56.04 in one-day cricket, a significant increase from his 25.2 average as a batter without the captaincy.
In other formats, Brook averages 47.57 as T20 captain and 28.5 as a T20 batter without the captaincy. His previous highest ODI score was 136 not out against Sri Lanka.
Brook has also averaged more than 80 across six Tests in Pakistan, where he scored 317 in Multan two years ago. For comparison, Ben Stokes scored 182 against New Zealand at The Oval in 2023.
