CBS Sports has appointed JJ Watt as its lead NFL analyst, replacing Tony Romo in the role. The network and Romo announced their professional split earlier this month.

Watt previously played for the Houston Texans and the Arizona Cardinals during his professional career. He remains the only player in the history of the NFL to record at least 20 sacks in multiple seasons.

In 2020, CBS Sports re-signed Romo to a multi-season agreement worth approximately $17,000,000 per year. The NFL established an 11-year rights deal in 2021 to govern broadcasting.

Other major networks have also secured high-profile talent, with Fox and Disney paying to attract Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, and Tom Brady. Amazon signed Kirk Herbstreit to provisional terms and lured Al Michaels to serve as the voices for Thursday Night Football.

Ian Eagle continues to call NBA games for Amazon’s Prime Video. Contracts for Greg Olsen at Fox and Al Michaels at Amazon are expected to lapse after the current season ends.
