Demonstrations briefly interrupted the Nations League football match between Ireland and Austria in Dublin on Thursday, according to reports. During the 19th minute, spectators threw tennis balls marked with Palestinian flag stickers onto the pitch.

A man entered the playing area waving a Palestinian flag in the 35th minute, causing a brief stoppage of play. Heimir Hallgrimsson stated that 'you are never happy with this (protests), but understand it and respect it'.

Separately, around 200 protesters gathered outside the Dublin Arena on Thursday evening. Joanne Doyle stated, "I strongly object to these two games against Israel going ahead, because basically it is sports-washing a genocide, sports are political. And it's happened many, many a time where people have boycotted events."

Mark Coomey asserted, "Ireland should not be playing ball with genocide. We've already played one game against genocidal Israel and crossed the Palestinian picket line." In other sporting news, Irish players won their Nations League match against Israel by a score of 3–0 in Hungary.

The return leg for that fixture is set to take place in Serbia on Sunday. Furthermore, Ireland, alongside Spain and Norway, formally recognised a Palestinian state in 2024.
