Somerset has secured Thomas Rew on a new contract that keeps the batsman at the club until the conclusion of the 2029 season. Rew, who will turn 19 next month, joined the Somerset side in 2025 and has since appeared in 30 games across all three formats.

The batsman accumulated 990 runs this season, including his first two centuries in the County Championship. Andy Hurry said, "Thomas has transitioned into the first XI environment extremely well and has quickly shown the qualities that make us excited about his future."

Hurry added that the club believes Rew has the potential to play an important role for Somerset across all formats for many years to come. Rew previously held a deal with the club that expired at the end of the 2028 campaign.

The player received his first senior England call-up and was granted a developmental deal for the national side. Rew was also appointed captain of the England Lions, who are scheduled to play T20 matches against the West Indies.

He will also feature in the squad for the T20 series in Australia next month. Earlier this year, Rew captained the England Under-19 side to the Under-19 World Cup final and hit the fastest-ever century for the Under-19s in June 2025.

Rew said, "It's where I've grown up, and every time I walk out in front of those fans it's very special." The batsman added, "The Somerset badge means a lot to me and to everyone inside that dressing room, so hopefully we can continue to challenge for trophies and bring a few more home."
