Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated he will not seek to remain in office when his current term expires in 2030. Sisi made the remarks during a graduation ceremony at the Egyptian Military Academy in the New Administrative Capital.

The 71-year-old leader said, "The period leading up to 2030 will be the end of my term as president of the state, if I am still alive. This is completely settled, and there will be no discussion about it." Sisi, who became president in 2014 after resigning as defence minister that same year, was re-elected in 2023 for a six-year term.

Constitutional amendments approved in a 2019 referendum extended presidential terms from four years to six years, following the 2014 constitution approval. Egypt joined the Saudi-led coalition in 2015 to support the Yemeni government.

Sisi affirmed that Egypt would take any measures necessary to defend Saudi Arabia if asked, stating, "It is inconceivable that we would allow Saudi Arabia, its security or stability to be harmed." Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited Sisi on 15 September 2026.

Parliament announced it would hold a plenary session at 13:00 GMT on 18 October 2026.

Sisi said, "The period leading up to 2030 will be the end of my term as president of the state, if I am still alive. This is completely settled, and there will be no discussion about it."
