Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar met with Magnus Brunner in Islamabad on 13 October to explore ways to bolster Pakistan-European Union cooperation regarding migration and mobility. Migration and mobility serve as a primary pillar of the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan established in 2019.
Pakistan is currently working to stop irregular migration while simultaneously fighting human trafficking and migrant smuggling. Dar emphasised that these security measures must be paired with more opportunities for Pakistani professionals and skilled workers to migrate legally.
Brunner acknowledged there is room to increase the number of legal migration routes available. The Senator also expressed his grief over fatalities resulting from a recent train derailment.
Authorities were instructed by Dar to provide immediate medical care for those injured in the accident. He ordered officials to offer aid to the families and passengers impacted by the crash.
Rescue teams and first responders were directed to extend full support during the emergency response.
