The UN Security Council reviewed the current situation in the Central African Republic to determine the future of peacekeeping operations. Pakistan contributes approximately 1,100 troops to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The mandate for MINUSCA is scheduled to expire on 15 November 2026. The electoral authority of the Central African Republic has announced that residual elections will be suspended in September 2026.

Armed groups launched an attack on Am-Dafock on 30 June 2026, which injured six UN peacekeepers and forced 17,000 civilians to flee. Valentine Rugwabiza highlighted the Am-Dafock attack and pleaded with the council to maintain MINUSCA with adequate force levels and capabilities during the critical consolidation phase.

Between June and September 2026, 26 serious incidents were recorded in the southeast region. Usman Jadoon stated, "Their continued presence remains indispensable to preserving these hard-won gains."

Jadoon added that the mission's political, security and peacebuilding functions remain mutually reinforcing and essential to sustainable peace. He noted that any further reconfiguration or transfer of responsibilities must remain gradual, conditions-based and guided by the priorities of the host Government.

Jadoon warned that the international community must avoid creating security vacuums or reversing the progress achieved over the years.
