LPG prices in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have hit Rs750 per kilogram as supplies have dropped over the last five to six days. Cylinder costs in these regions have climbed above Rs10,000.

Market rates in various areas have risen to between Rs550 and Rs600 per kilogram, with Peshawar seeing prices around Rs600 per kilogram. The official LPG price for this month was set by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) at Rs279.34 per kilogram.

A senior OGRA official stated that 70 per cent of Pakistan's LPG requirements are met through imports, while 30 per cent are produced domestically. Tensions between Iran and the United States led to the closure of the Taftan border, which an OGRA spokesperson acknowledged had created some difficulties.

The senior official warned that prices could potentially exceed Rs700 per kilogram in affected markets if enforcement measures trigger supply disruptions. An OGRA spokesperson said work was under way to address the issue and expressed confidence that the situation would be brought under control soon.

OGRA has yet to launch a planned crackdown on companies and sellers accused of profiteering. Firewood prices have increased by Rs200 to Rs300 per maund, now selling for between Rs1,600 and Rs1,800 per maund.

Previously, firewood was available at prices ranging from Rs1,400 to Rs1,600 per maund.
