The Lahore High Court summoned the Punjab home secretary and the superintendent of Kot Lakhpat Jail to address the continued custody of Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan, and Noreen Niazi. Justice Abher Gul Khan adjourned the proceedings until 28 October.
The three sisters remained in custody after their detention period ended, despite the fact that the orders issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner expired on 19 October. Aleema was detained on 20 September, while Uzma and Noreen were taken into custody on 21 September under Section 3 of the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance, 1960.
Shahrez Khan filed a petition on 24 September and a fresh plea on 21 October seeking to declare the detention orders void and set the detainees at liberty. The petition claims the sisters were not wanted in any criminal case and that their detention stemmed from efforts to secure their brother's release.
Khan argues that the continued detention violates fundamental rights and warns the sisters may face false criminal charges if they are not released. The court had previously declined to suspend the detention notifications against Uzma and Noreen on 25 September.
