Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti called for a comprehensive review of the country's administrative structure to improve governance. Bugti advocated for the creation of additional administrative units and a revised framework for sharing resources.
The Chief Minister suggested evaluating current governance models and considering the establishment of new provinces. Governing Balochistan exclusively from Quetta presents major administrative hurdles, according to Bugti.
He noted that a journey across Punjab from the Wagah border to Rajanpur takes between 6 and 7 hours. In contrast, travelling within a single district of Balochistan can take up to 10 hours.
Bugti recalled a suicide attack near a shrine in the remote Sarona area of Khuzdar district. The deputy commissioner required nearly 9 hours to travel from the district headquarters to the site of that attack.
He stated it is necessary to assess whether the Westminster-style democratic system is delivering the desired results. Bugti also called for a broader approach to resource allocation under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.
