Healthcare regulatory bodies will initiate action against the issuance of unauthorised ultrasound reports to ensure diagnostic accuracy. Authorities are considering new measures to mandate that only radiologists with appropriate qualifications conduct diagnostic ultrasound reporting.
Required credentials for these reports include FCPS, MD, MCPS, and DMRD in Radiology. MBBS practitioners are expected to be advised to stay within their authorised scope of practice and avoid issuing formal diagnostic reports without the necessary approvals.
Sources claim that some MBBS doctors are using the title Sonologist to issue formal reports after completing informal training or short-term certificate courses in ultrasonography. Regulatory bodies will also stress that professionals from nursing, medical, and allied health fields must adhere to their legally permitted scopes of practice.
Violations of these standards may result in regulatory actions, including financial penalties and inspections. Concerns have been raised that examinations performed by unauthorised individuals at clinics and hospitals could lead to inaccurate findings and delays in treatment.
