Alexander Zverev will reach the world number one position in men's tennis at the year-end rankings. The 29-year-old athlete currently holds the world number two spot.

Zverev will become the first German male player to conclude a season as the top-ranked player in the world. Current number one Jannik Sinner announced last week that his season ended due to a knee injury, while Carlos Alcaraz lost his third-round match in Shanghai.

Alcaraz, who is ranked third, was out of competition from April until the US Open because of a wrist injury. Zverev secured his first-ever Grand Slam title by winning the French Open in June.

The 6-foot-6 player overcame a career-threatening ankle injury sustained during the French Open semi-final in 2022. Sinner previously defeated Zverev in the Wimbledon final.

"It's been a fantastic season for me winning in Paris and New York and knowing that I will finish the year on top of the rankings is just a dream come true," Zverev said. "So much work and effort have been put into achieving this goal, especially after coming back from the ankle injury," Zverev added.

A German court dropped a case against Zverev following a settlement reached in June 2024, which had involved a 2023 penalty order and fine. The ATP Tour investigated one claim regarding the player but found insufficient evidence to issue a punishment.

"It's been a fantastic season for me winning in Paris and New York and knowing that I will finish the year on top of the rankings is just a dream come true," Alexander Zverev said.
