Lancashire will not provide James Anderson with a new contract, meaning the bowler will depart Old Trafford. Richard Kenyon and Paul Farbrace informed Anderson of the club's decision on Monday.

The current agreement for the bowler does not officially end until the close of October. Anderson, who is 44 years old, previously committed to remaining with Lancashire in 2025.

He was not given the option to remain at Old Trafford on reduced terms. During the previous season, Anderson captained Lancashire and claimed 50 wickets in Division Two.

Only six other bowlers in the second tier surpassed the 50-wicket mark last summer. Anderson began a 22-year international career in 2002 and retired from international cricket in 2024.

He has taken 704 wickets for England over his career. The bowler first played for the Lancashire first team in 2001.

His debut for the club occurred in a one-day match against Derbyshire in 2001. Before that, he made his top-level debut in a List A game for Lancashire Cricket Board against Suffolk in 2000.

Anderson will turn 45 in 2027. Lancashire will host a forum for the club's members on Monday.
