Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang dismissed claims that artificial intelligence could destroy humanity as "cheap" attempts to attract media attention during a conference in Berlin. Huang stated that assertions regarding the end of human civilisation are not true.
The visit to Germany marked the final stop of a tour across Europe for the chipmaker chief. Nvidia committed nearly 10 billion dollars to investments within the European technology sector.
Huang called for the global community to build AI now if they are concerned about future sustainability. He advocated for a stance of "responsible optimism" regarding the development of the technology.
Contrasting these views, a researcher who resigned from Anthropic in September described the current pace of development as "gambling with our lives." Leadership at both Anthropic and OpenAI have requested a reduction in the speed of AI progress.
President Donald Trump opposes strict regulation of the industry and announced in September that the US government would use the term "super intelligence" in official communications instead of AI.
"When you say that it will be the end of the human civilisation, first of all, it's not true," Jensen Huang said.
