The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) now permits individuals to pay the sales tax on imported mobile phones in monthly instalments. These payments facilitate the completion of registration via the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS).
To implement this change, the FBR modified its 2019 order under Customs General Order (CGO) No. 06 of 2026. Applicants falling under paragraphs A, B, and C of the current order are eligible to choose the instalment option.
The tax amount is split into equal monthly portions based on the number of months left in the financial year. Anyone importing a mobile phone during June is required to settle the full sales tax by the end of that month.
A Payment Slip ID (PSID) generated at the time of application is used to pay the first instalment. Separate PSIDs will be issued on the relevant date of each following month for subsequent payments.
All scheduled instalments must be cleared by 30 June. Importers may also choose to pay some or all of the remaining tax ahead of schedule.
Failure to meet an instalment deadline results in the individual being classified as a defaulter. The DIRBS system will treat the phone as unregistered and block it if a payment is missed.
Missing a single payment makes the entire outstanding sales tax due immediately. A person declared a defaulter loses the right to pay the remaining balance in instalments.
