Etsy is implementing more rigorous regulations regarding the use of artificial intelligence in product listings. The marketplace platform stated that "many active buyers say they can’t tell which items involve AI-generated content."

Every listing now requires at least one unedited photograph of the physical item set against a real background. All images must provide an accurate representation of the product a customer will receive.

Secondary photos may be modified using software or AI-powered tools, provided the final result remains a faithful depiction of the physical product. A pop-up notification will appear if the platform detects images that might be AI-generated.

Sellers may be held liable for a refund if a buyer reports that the received item is "materially different" from the listing. Etsy specified that information within functional guides must be the seller's own work rather than content generated by AI.

Vendors must display an "actual result" created from any guide they provide. The platform no longer permits listings created by bots.

Selling art generated by AI remains permitted, but Etsy requires sellers to disclose that the work was made with AI.
