The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) detailed the procedures for reporting illegal online content in a response to Writ Petition No. 4163 of 2026. Waqas Nasir initiated the legal action against the Federation of Pakistan and other entities to safeguard children from the negative impacts of social media and the digital landscape.

Users can submit reports of unlawful material through a dedicated online portal provided by the authority. The PTA may dismiss complaints that do not provide enough information or the necessary specifics.

Complaints might be turned down if they are duplicates, already being investigated, or require a thorough review of oral evidence and documents. The regulator is also permitted to reject submissions from individuals who are not directly impacted by the reported issue.

Anonymous reports are not permitted under the current rules. Regulations mandate that the authority notify complainants if their reports are rejected.

Blocking content on platforms using HTTPS may necessitate cooperation with the platform administrator or the relevant service provider.
